building a special needs ministry from the ground up with craig johnson
In this super special episode, Stacia and TK are joined by Craig Johnson. Craig is the Ministry Pastor for Lakewood Church in Houston, Tx. He is also the founder of the Champion’s Club, a ministry for families with special needs. Craig’s son Connor was diagnosed with autism at age 2, even during years of struggle, Craig felt God promising him that Connor would reach millions of people. With the creation of the Champion’s Club, Connor’s message did start reaching people, this was first true for their home church, but is now true for church’s all over the world.
In this episode Craig shares all about meeting the needs of the special needs members of your congregation. He talks about some of the best strategies for ministering to people with special needs and what tools you have to have to make a difference. Craig will challenge you to reach “the least of these” like you’ve never considered before. If you are interested in learning more about how to engage the special needs people that are in your congregation, or adding a new ministry to support your community, you do not want to miss this episode.
Five things you need to start a special needs ministry
2. Someone that has a heart for special needs kids and has strong administrative skills to “champion” it.
3. A space (hallways, rooms, closets). It’s like New York City, you can find space if you want too. 🙂
4. A special needs family who you can minister to.
5. Love and acceptance. Don’t be a afraid. If God is for you, who can be against you? If you have love, you’re halfway there.
